Mullholland's Lasting Luggage Impressions February 04, 2009 Stylish and sturdy bags from Mulholland
By Jeanie Casison
Savvy business travelers always pack light, but now that the airlines are charging for checked bags, eliminating excess seems more important than ever. Reward a top performer with a luggage piece that will last and keep its classic-chic appearance through thousands of tosses up into the overhead compartment.
Mulholland's weekend bags—the Vintage Waxed Canvas Rover Duffel, the Boardroom Longhorn and the Boardroom Shorthorn—combine a throwback look with the latest technology in materials and construction. They use Italian leather, reinforced by ballistic nylon and waterproof fabric, creating bags that can withstand the abuse of travel. The Rover has an easy-to-pack slouch design and two exterior pockets. The Longhorn and the Shorthorn differ only in size, and both have rolled leather handles and a large outer pocket.
They are nice to look at, too, says Jay Holland co-founder and co-owner of Mulholland. "Our line has nothing that people need, and everything that they want," he says. "You can travel with a gunny sack, but this is a way to add style."
Mulholland's most expensive piece is a $30,000 alligator-skin bag.
