Canon's True Colors

Canon's latest cameras come in a rainbow of hues
By Jeanie Casison

Color photography is decades older than the oldest digital camera, but manufacturers have mostly kept the product itself in the black-and-white era—making the camera section of most incentive rewards catalogs one big gray wash. This year, though, Canon is breaking out a whole new palette, offering its latest models in a rainbow of different hues. The camera with the most color choices is Canon’s PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH, available in dark gray, blue, pink, green, light gray and orange.

For some incentives, that means winners can pick the color that suits them best. For others, it means a company can easily fit the camera to their own brand or program. "Colors align themselves particularly well with the incentive channel," says Terry Markwart, director of special accounts for Canon. "Companies can pick up their color—often there is something available that comes close or fits with their program." For a recent promotion, Markwart says that FedEx used blue cameras that complemented the company's logo.

Photography is also a lot is also a lot more fun when the photos come out the way you want them to look. Canon’s new lineup addresses that as well, with a number of new features enabled by the cameras' new DIGIC 4 Image Processor chip.
