Saving With Power Tools

Black & Decker Energy Saver Series helps homeowners save money in a snap
By Jeanie Casison

Cutting down costs is always a concern especially in an uncertain economy. The Black & Decker Energy Saver Series offers some relief, by helping homeowners better track and control their energy expenditures. The trio of tools—the Power Monitor, Thermal Leak Detector and the soon to be released Lights Out Autoswitchcomes in handy especially for those who want to have a better handle on their utility bills.

Thanks to the Power Monitor, users can determine in real-time just how much electricity they consume and what it costs. The rate of electricity consumed is monitored through a wireless sensor that attaches to an outdoor electricity meter. Within seconds, the information is relayed to a hand-held display monitor located inside the home.

The Thermal Leak Detector helps find potentially costly leaks and drafts, which often escape from windows, baseboards, outlet plates and other fixtures. The hand-held device uses infrared sensors to measure surface temperature along flooring, molding, window frames and walls. When the LED spotlights changes colors, this immediately identifies a hot or cold leak. A five-step guide offers additional help with addressing energy leak problems.

Additional details about the Lights Out Autoswitch will be available when it is released in 2009.
