Motivation Show Supplier Profile: Scottsdale CVB
September 24, 2008
By Alexandra Haake

The Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau continues to seek ways to help the local tourism community become more sustainable. The bureau's green initiatives and implementations are also expanding, and they encourage their membership of more than 600 businesses to do the same.

A Sustainability Advisory Committee, educational seminars, and www.ScottsdaleGreenByDesign.com, are devoted to the eco-friendly efforts of the destination, according to Director of Sales & Services, Renee Angeles. The committee also helps Scottsdale CVB make internal changes and assists local businesses in finding ways to incorporate green practices into their day-to-day operations. The Web site provides visitors and corporate planners with resources on eco-friendly activities, a listing of green Scottsdale businesses, and information on green meetings.

According to Angeles, the various Scottsdale CVB initiatives are in response to the increasing requests of corporate buyers who are interested in providing their incentive groups with an eco-friendly experience. An example of this eco-awareness on the part of Scottsdale CVB is accommodating incentive groups who prefer to use water stations versus bottles of water. These unique accommodations and others attest to the one-of-a-kind experience incentive groups can receive while visiting Scottsdale.

The Scottsdale CVB is continuing its partnership with the Sedona Chamber of Commerce Tourism Bureau to promote Scottsdale and Sedona, Arizona. The partnership is meant to increase visitation between the two cities and the opportunities for day-trips and overnight stays. The partnership is also committed to enhancing customers' overall experiences by incorporating the two destinations so that customers are more likely to return to Arizona.

This past year was a successful one for Scottsdale, according to Angeles. Angeles expects that while some groups will opt to stay closer to home as a result of a weakened economy and the affects of rising fuel prices, Scottsdale will continue to attract groups to their world-class resorts, championship golf courses, pampering spas, majestic Sonoran Desert an the countless other attractions that only Scottsdale has to offer.

Angeles enjoys the Motivation Show because it "provides great exposure to our destination and we look forward to attending each year."
