Altec Lansing Inmotion IM600
June 29, 2007
By Julia Chang

You think you don't need to bother with portable speakers for your iPod, but the difference in sound quality over your laptop's speakers will change your mind. The inMotion iM600 offers crisp, clear sound in a compact design, and its FM radio tuner is a nice touch. Set up is easy: Press the front panel to expose the power button and docking station; put your regular-sized iPod, nano, or mini into the station (which also recharges the player); choose the iPod as your audio source; and push play as usual, or use the wireless remote. The iM600 weighs about 2 pounds and is 11 inches wide, almost 2 inches deep, and 6 inches high, which might not seem small enough for bare-bones business travelers who hate to carry little more than the clothes on their backs, but it is as convenient to carry as the latest hardcover bestseller. The iM600 also can connect to a variety of audio sources, such as other mp3 players, CD players, portable DVD players and laptops using an auxiliary input jack. Its real value lies in the sound quality: Audiophiles who appreciate high performance at an affordable price will bring the iM600 on their next road trip.
