Nine New Sony Bravia HD LCDs
July 12, 2007
By Leo Jakobson
Sony has announced nine new additions to its line up of BRAVIA high-definition LCD flat-panel televisions. The new models all feature full 1080p—"true" high definition—resolution, 10-bit panels for improved color reproduction, and Sony's Digital Media Extender, which enables the TVs to access select Internet video content without going through a computer.
The new sets all have Sony's BRAVIA Theater Sync, which allows users to control various external components, such as AV receivers and Blu-ray high definition DVD players, at the touch of a button. Another new feature is Theater Mode, which automatically optimizes the set's displays for movies, and Photo TV HD mode, which optimizes them for digital picture viewing.
The new W-3000 series includes the 52-inch KDL-52W3000, 46-inch KDL-46W3000 and 40-inch KDL-40W3000, all of which feature a brushed metal picture frame bezel.
The new 52-inch KDL-52XBR4, 46-inch KDL-46XBR4 and 40-inch KDL-40XBR4 have a floating glass frame design with the ability to swap the standard black bezel out for any of eight other optional colors: Scarlet Red, Pacific Blue, Arctic White, Sienna Brown, Titanium Silver, Midnight Black, Rose Metallic and Champaign Gold. The 52-inch KDL-52XBR5, 46-inch KDL-46XBR5 and 40-inch KDL-40XBR5 televisions also feature the floating glass design with a non-interchangeable piano black-finished bezel.
The XBR model lines feature Sony's Motionflow 120Hz high frame rate technology, which doubles the frames displayed per second in real-time, which effectively eliminates motion artifacts, or "judder," thus improving images for fast action sports and other programming.
The models range in price from $2,700 to $5,100 and will become available between July and September.
