Brushing Up on Training Basics
January 26, 2010
The fundamentals of training aren't the most glamorous reading material, but if you don't know them, your training results won't be glamorous either. A new series of reference books on the topic hopes to provide trainers with a needed refresher on the classics of their industry.
The Pfeiffer Guide to Training Basics, Volumes 1-3, by Janis Chan, consists of three books: "Training Fundamentals," "Designing and Developing Training Programs," and "Preparing and Delivering Training Workshops." The goal, publisher Jossey-Bass says, is to provide practical ideas, information, tips, and techniques for people who are new to the training field, as well as trainers who have been in the field for a while and would like to learn more.
An overview of the three volume set:
• Training Fundamentals: An overview of training.
• Designing and Developing Training Programs: Building on the basics provided in "Training Fundamentals," this book guides readers through the instructional design process, providing ideas, information, tools, and strategies intended to be put into action immediately.
• Delivering Training Workshops: Also building on the basics of delivery presented in "Training Fundamentals," this book was written to provide strategies, best practices, tips, and guidelines for preparing, delivering, and following up a workshop.
