2009 Training Top 125 FAQ

Q: What is the Training Top 125?

A: A ranking of organizations that excel at human capital development, as determined by Training magazine.

Q: Who can apply for the Training Top 125?

A: Any company or organization can apply, as long as it does not provide training or training-related services to other organizations. If it does, those services must constitute less than 5 percent of the organization's annual revenue. All applying companies must either be a holding/parent company or a wholly owned subsidiary or division. (This does not apply to nonprofit agencies, government agencies, etc.)

Q: When is the application due?

A: The deadline is September 22, 2008.

Q: How do I apply?

A: Download the application, fill it out, and send it back with payment. All applications must be a Word document; they must be sent electronically (to lorri.freifeld@nielsen.com) and also in hard copy (to the address below). If you must send a PDF, make sure the file is not locked. We have established word count limits for certain questions. Please observe the limits, as we have established them to cope with the volume of applications we receive.

Q: How much does it cost to apply?

A: Training magazine charges a $179 application processing and handling fee.

Q: How do I pay for my application?

A: To pay by credit card, use the link on www.trainingmag.com/top125 and then print out your receipt. Please include a copy of your credit card payment receipt with the hard copy application you mail in (address below).

To pay by check, please include the check (indicating which company’s submission your payment applies to) with your application when you mail it in. Checks should be made payable to Nielsen Business Media and sent in with the hard copy of your application to:

Q: When is the Training Top 125 Awards Dinner?

A: The Awards Dinner takes place during Training 2009; it will be held February 9, 2009, at the Georgia World Congress Center — Thomas Murphy Ballroom, Atlanta, GA.

Q: When will content about the 2009 Training Top 125 be published?

A: Training magazine's February 2009 issue will include the final rankings and feature stories on the Top 5 companies, plus Best Practices and Outstanding Initiatives Award winners.

Q: How do you arrive at the Training Top 125 ranking?

A: The data provided in the Top 125 applications is scored and evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively by Training magazine. Each organization's ranking is based on many factors, including financial commitment, training programs offered, metrics measured, methods of evaluation, etc. Other factors include the use of workplace surveys, HR data such as turnover and new employee referrals, etc. Please keep in mind that although the Best Practices and Outstanding Initiatives Awards are separate awards, nominations still be will be looked at for overall qualitative scoring.
