Banking on Learning
February 04, 2010
Bankers should know what they're doing because the outcome of their work is something people take seriously, but since even professionals such as bankers sometimes need updating, a new learning program on IRAs has been released.
The American Bankers Association launched a new online refresher course designed to bring bankers up-to-date with the latest changes involving IRAs. "Introduction to IRA's" is a course that teaches students how to help clients prepare for tax time, how to get the best IRA tax benefits, and explains the impact of new Roth IRA conversion rules.
"This is a great way for bankers to be proactive, treat their customers with a higher level of customer service, and create cross-promotional opportunities," says ABA Executive Vice-President Doug Adamson. "By offering 'Introduction to IRAs' to your staff, you'll energize your team, build their confidence, and be that 'just in time' adviser clients seek," says Adamson. "It's relevant to a wide range of bank personnel including tellers, customer service reps, private bankers, branch managers, and trust administrators."
The 30-minute, self-paced course discusses traditional, rollover, and Roth IRAs, explains basic IRA product features and benefits, contribution and distribution requirements, tax benefits, penalty calculations, new conversion rules, simplified employee pension plans, and SIMPLE Retirement Accounts.
The course, part of ABA's Building Trust Expertise series of online courses, is $95, and comes with a 30-page reference manual, "IRA Training: Planning for Retirement Benefits," which includes review questions. The stand-alone study guide can be used for additional in-bank training sessions, and features information on tax benefits and retirement planning techniques.
